On the 8th of august 2012, I purchased a baby Leo from Petco,I was surprised to see that there was an albino morph. (At least I think). Iv never trusted petco before but I couldn't pass up a deal. Anyone that has ever been to that place knows that the leos are sold when they are tiny babies and Most of the time not taken care of. ANYWAYS, I got her home that evening tried to feed her,she didn't eat, thought it was okay because she may have been fed at the petstore. So I didn't worry much. A week pasted, and she still had no appetite. This is when i began to panic. I have two other Leos and they ate just fine when they were babies... I went online and found a liquid formula to feed her, went to the store and bought all the ingredients, blended them together, now I feed her threw a plastic syringe 3 times a day. She has absolutely no interest in live prey.. She also sleeps ALOT. Which i know leopard geckos are Nocturnal but she sleeps to much. This lead me to believe there was a bigger problem. I read a lot about parasites and now I'm paranoid. Iv been looking at deworming medicines but none of them are for reptiles, all for cats, dogs, or horses. One treatment is called Pyrantel Pamoate but where can I find it besides the vet, I would like to order it online, the other is Panacur. I really want to save this gecko but I cant blow a hole in my pocket. Please help I want to confirm that she will be okay. Here are the picture links---

She does appear thin to me, but not completely emaciated as if she had been well down the road of a debilitating internal parasite. However, in saying that, it does not rule out the possibility that she may have an internal problem. Looks like a juvenile Tremper albino.

Anorexia and lethargy are very common symptoms of many intestinal parasites. Is she keeping the liquid mixture down? Many geckos take their sweet time to adjust to their new surroundings before they are comfortable enough to eat, some adults have been known to do so for up to 2 weeks or more! She may be taking longer to adjust to her surroundings. Since that could be a possibility, keep her stressors low and refrain from handling at all costs. However, the possibility of a problem is still there, and frankly, since the gecko is coming from Petco, IMO it outweighs the possibility that this gecko is taking a long time to adjust.

I would give it a couple more days and if she does not begin eating and showing signs of improvement, then a vet visit and fecal exam should be in order to check for parasites or any other problems. However, I still believe it would be wise to go to the vet even if she does improve, just to be safe.

Iv been looking at deworming medicines but none of them are for reptiles, all for cats, dogs, or horses. One treatment is called Pyrantel Pamoate but where can I find it besides the vet, I would like to order it online, the other is Panacur.

You should not be attempting to administer parasitic medications, or any medications now that we're on the subject, without the proper diagnosis and consent of a qualified veterinarian. It is incredibly dangerous and can have a huge adverse affect on the gecko, especially if given to a gecko whom truly doesn't have a problem. Please, please don't do that.

I really want to save this gecko but I cant blow a hole in my pocket.

I don't want to come off as harsh, but to be frank, if that is the case then you should have refrained from purchasing the gecko.

It is keeping the mixture down. I still have 4 days to return her but i don't want to because they will possibly kill her anyways :( I purchased her because she was on sale. I had no idea that she would have been sick with something when i got her. Petco shouldn't be aloud to sell sickly pets. It really makes me Angry.

I got my Leopard Gecko at Petco when they were on sale. He was also REALLY tiny, but started slowly eating within a couple of days.. Now he eats like a PIG, is getting nice and fat, nice fat tail, he's shed twice in the last month.. his first shed he had a bit of shed left on his front foot. Got that off, this second shed was PERFECT. Mine is a Super Snow Blizzard. At first I thought he was just a regular blizzard, but after a couple of sheds, he has that really distinct white line down his back that the Super Snow Blizzards get. Anyways, don't freak out, just take a nice fresh poo, put it in a ziplock bag and refrigerate if you can't get it to the vet right away. Have them do a Fecal Smear and Float. They don't need to see the animal and it's not an expensive test to have done. The meds also aren't that expensive. Do the right thing by your new baby, it will be SO worth it to see her thriving!

well now you learned something...Don't buy a pet if you can't afford to dish out the vet bill. You do more harm then good when doing so.

I never trust petshops especially retail chains. I worked in petland YEARS ago. And it was a hell hole behind the scenes. I can tell you horror stories from both petshops I worked in, in my younger years. You'll never want to buy another lizard from a petshop again.

Personally I never feed anything the same day I bought them (reptile wise) it takes time to adjust. Give it a few days and see how it goes. She looks ok, not perfect but looks ok. Pet shops dont offer the things we reptile lovers do at home. As long as they can make a buck their happy.

Well that said I hope she does ok. Let us know what happens.

Thank you Ozy, That really gives me hope. At this moment she is really active which is a good sign.

---I know it may have been a bit stupid to buy her but, As i said they probably would have killed her anyway. Its better to try then not try at all. Im doing my very best for her. I didn't intend to come of like i wasn't going to spend money to save her. Just not an ungodly amount. I have spent close to 100$ already for the formula i have to make every week for her. I will keep everyone updated on her. Thank you all for the help.
