Just thought I'd start a new thread. What exactly is pip and how is it done? When is it usually done to the egg? No mold yet or anything here, so still waiting for the clutchmate.

Basicly cutting a small slit to see if the baby is ok. You can do it by pinching the end of the egg gently and sniping just a little pinch with some small cutical scissors. If there is clear fluid or the baby moves it is ok and you can basicly leave the egg like that or put a small peice of paper towel over the small slit.
It will then exit when it is ready, not necesarily even that day.
Some do it when the egg is overdue.

Well this morning the egg was partially collapsed and had 2 I would say mold spots, so no good. I'm guessing the temp fluctuation from when I moved them into the incubator from the garage?? But all the others went straight into the incubator, and they look good so far.

Hey Sara, do you have any pictures of this? I've wondered how to do this, but in order to attempt it I'd like to have specific details first! If you have any more information, (or anyone else) pleasse post it!

I 'pip' my eggs if they haven't hatched within about 3 days of the first one. I do like Sarah does... I pinch the end of the egg just enough to make a small fold, and then using a small pair of cuticle scissors I cut a slight slit where the fold is. If clear liquid comes out, or the baby moves, I patch the slit with a small piece of torn paper towel (it will stick because of the liquid). I put the egg back in the incubator until it hatches.

Thats too bad.:(
It was a long time after the first hatched. It could have been anything, it's hard to tell the exact reason some don't make it out of the egg.
Good luck with the rest.

Marcia made it a little more detailed for you, lol. I don't have any pics though.
It is scary to do the first time but pretty simple once you feel comfortable.
I do wish i did it on one egg a week ago. It had started to grow some mold but the baby moved when I candeled it so I let it be even though it was overdue. It died by the time I got back from a weekend trip to the beach I did have my husband pip it to see if it ws dead even though I was pretty sure by the egg. I didn't take it out though, I have issues with dead things, lol, and he wouldn't do it for me. I guess even if I had piped it when it was still alive it may not have come out of the egg one it's own, who knows though.
But maybeif they can't make it out of the egg on there own maybe somthing was wrong with it to begin with.
