I have had my first gecko for about 5 months and he (or she) is doing pretty good. The annoying thing is that I have to drop mealworms right in from of him for him to be interested in eating. He has a dish that always has some in there but he never ever is interested in it. Even when I didnt feed him for a few days to see if he would find it on his own he refused to notice. Any advise on how to teach him to eat by himself?

try not to keep the dish in 24/7, instead, maybe try putting the dish in at a certain time of day for a little while, then taking it out and repeating that every day, to kind of get a sense of 'feeding time'

"Sink" his mealies dish below his walking level. A couple of pieces of tile would do the trick. He walks up on the tiles, looks down into the "hole" and hopefully digs in. Once he's eating from the hole, remove a tile so that part of the dish is above ground level. It may take time, but you should be able to trick him into eating from the dish.

Another trick: Offer wax worms in the dish a few times. Then mix a couple of mealies with 1 or 2 waxies. Then only mealies.
