Hey everyone.. i am just stopping by to say hello. i just got into leopard geckos a few months ago and I just got one!!!! I have no idea what kind of morph it is.. i dont think it is a normal. it kind looks like a jungle but not really..idk.lol..maybe tomrrow i will take pics and post it so you guys can help me out alittle bit with that. It is a baby, i got it from the ***** where i work. I took it right off the truck when i saw the color and pattern so hopefully it did not get a chance to caught anything from other geckos or animals. anyway, i think i have everything set up real good for now. i have it in a 20 long tank. meal worm dish, water dish, 1 hide on warm side, 1 hide on cool side, 1 moist hide in the middle, dish with some cal-storn calcium.( which i have yet to see it eat, it did walk through it once..lol).....I have 1 zoo med heat pad on the warm side connected to a allife termostat which is set to stay at 92.5 degrees F. i got it yesterday. i think it is only about 3 or 4 months old. like i said i got it yesterday night but i have not seen it eat yet,! today i changed its tank floor from paper towels to green repti carpet(which i like alot).. since i changed it i have seen it walking around checking out its new house and i licked the water like 2 times then walked away. i have not tryed to feed it anything but mealworm yet. i just leave a dish with meal worms in it, but all it seems to do is go into the hides and sleep. am i doing everything ok???.. should baby leopard gecko not have a high temp in the warm side of 92.5? because yesterday when it was on paper towels the temp on only on 85 on the warm hide. and it stayed in the warm hide all day.. but now that i changed the tank floor to the repti carpet and the temp is at 92.5 it is staying in the cool side hide all the time. but i dont think it is because it is too hott for him because when i first changed everything and put it back in the tank. it was just looking around and found the cool side hide and went right into that one and has not come out. but it did not even go over to the warm side to check out over there.. did it just find a sweet spot and wanted to go to sleep on the cool side? or is something wrong?.. thanks and hello again to all

I would turn the heat up a little, I like a warm spot around 95-100. Everything else sounds fine though, just leave him alone for a week or so, once he has a chance to settle in and recover from shipping stress he should start eating.

As said above it would be better to have it a bit warmer :)

You sound like you've done youre homework and actually have an idea of what youre doing b4 u got the gecko which is awesome :main_thumbsup:

I know its scarey when you first bring one home but try not to stress too much ;) It can take them a while to get settled so dont worry and just let it do its own thing. It will learn wheres its food is and where all its different hides are, they are surprisingly intelligent ;)

The best thing you can do is try to handle it as little as possible (i know you have to move them for cleaning and it can be scarey for both of you) and let it get used to you comming and going to feed it, clean up its poops etc

Slow and steady wins the race and when your little friend is ready to be picked up and handled you will know, and then you will get sick of it wanting your attention all the time :laugh4:

Im joking about the last part but really, just give it time and congrats with you new friend :D They really are great pets to have :)

hey guys thanks for the reply.. well still no change from what i can see. i am at school right now but when i get home i will turn up the heat alittle bit to about 95? i hope that is not too hott.. it seems to really love one of the hides i have for it.. I have one of those ones that comes in 2 different half's and it has a magnet that holds them together while one half is inside of the tank and the other is outside and the gecko can go inside and rest.. its real cool, i think it gives your tank alittle bit of a 3-D effect. Also i was wondering if I should buy like 5 crickets or something from the pet store and see if it will eat it? or should i just wait and see if it eats the worms that are in his food dish first? because i always keep a food dish filled with worms so it can eat whenever it wants to. what do you guys think? Also i have been keeping a lid of calcium in the tank but i do not know if it is with D3 or without, is there anything how the jar that would say because when i look it says nothing about D3.. I do not want to be giving it too much D3 because i heard that that can kill it. I have this one http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog...leaners/-/carib-sea-calstron-reptile-calcium/
another thing is does any1 have any tips on sexing this alittle baby. I would like to know if it is a boy or girl so i can maybe name it and get another gecko of the other sex . LOL...(one last question i promise)...if i keep one baby male together with 1 or 2 maybe females of the same size, will they mate too early in their life and get sick and die or anything. because since i have my baby first gecko now in a 20 long thank which is 30 inchs i think it should be enuff space for 1 or 2 more geckos to go around.. LAST THING!..lol( i promise).....(again).. can leopard geckos climb good at all, i would like to put something for it climb on. not vines and stuff but maybe like one those snake hides where the hole is on top so the gecko would have to climb up to get into the hole.
Thanks alot again everyone, sorry for all the questions.

If its not eating out of the dish try dropping a few worms infront of it to see if it will try them. Once it eats some and realises they are yummy food it might start eating from the dish then :)

If you wanna try some crickets go ahead, it cant hurt. Just make sure to take them out of it doesnt eat them in 15-20 mins as they can cause stress and bite your gecko.

As far as sexing them its really easy. First off there are the bulges that appear just below the vent on boys but not girls, they are its man parts ;) Secondly males have a V shaped line of pores near their vent, girls dont. It can be hard to tell when theyre very young but i got some babies and within a month or so i could tell that one was male.

Atm i have a male and female together, theyre about 5 months old now and theres no sign of him wanting to mate yet. I think males can get sexually mature about 8 months or something like that, so aslong as you seperate them b4 then if you dont want eggs then they should be ok.

They can climb a bit, easily enough to get into snake hides. Some of mine sit in their hides all the time and some of them have a good wander and a climb so it cant hurt to put some interesting things in for them to explore if they want :D
