My gecko has just started bleeding from his toe. I only noticed when holding him that he was bleeding on me. I don't know why but think perhaps he has lost one of the tips of his toes? He has a humid hide and recently shed, also this is the first time i've had to gently use a damp cotton bud to help remove some skin from his toes but that was a few days ago. Have I missed a bit? what can I do for him now?
Please help :(

if he is bleeding the bes thing would be to change any sand you have to kitchen paper so the wound is kept clean untill it heals.
have u checked his toes to see if there is any skin left?

Thankyou sausage! He has stopped bleeding now, and i got the last of the skin off his toe after soaking his feet in warm water. I hope he's ok! Good tip about the kitchen roll. Is it ok above a heat mat??

I don't think a leo would lose a toe tip after just a few days of stuck shed on their toe, but I would take the sanitary meaures sausage mentioned and change the enclosure to paper towels regardless of what other substrait you might be using, remove all furniture except for hides, and soak the leos feet in a tupperware dish of warm water for a good 15-20 minutes then wipe them off to make sure there isn't any more stuck shed. Toes usually turn dark before they come off if it's because of stuck shed. Toes that shed a bit prematurely would be more apt to bleed during an attempt at extracting stuck shed because what you're actually rubbing is pramature baby like super sensitive skin. I had this happen to my leo's tail. Looked like stuck shed, texture was all wrong, so I tried to get the (what I thought was) shed off with a qtip and the tail started to bleed a little just from rubbing it with a gentle swab.

What is your tank set up like? Is ther a lot of stuff your leo can climb on? Can you tell if their is still a toenail on that toe? He might have just damaged his foot on his tank furnishings, maybe took of the toenail climbing around. Of course pix would be a big help if you can get a good one.

yeh i agree with Kel, the first thing i would do is check the enclosure for anything it could have scraped or cut the toe on. Most likely it will be him climbing around and stubbed his toes or took the nail off. Normally when a toe tip is lost due to stuck shed it doesnt bleed too much.
