Please post the weights, at hatching, of your confirmed and suspected Giants.

I am interested in acquiring more data to see if there is any validity to the idea that Giant and Super Giants hatch out at a greater weight than their non-Giant counterparts.

Please post any data you'd like to contribute, including:

Claimed/believed morphs of parents and the cross

Weight of the suspected Giant and/or Super Giant the day of hatching

Weight at maturity (say a year and a half to two years). Weight that is advanced at a few months of age or whatever is not an acceptable substitute for fully mature adult weight data.

Also:

Length at hatching

Length at maturity

--------------------------------------------------

I would like something as easy as the weight at hatching to be a decent early indicator, but weight variance between normals alone is enormous, with some hatching at multiple times the mass of others, so I am wondering if it's even a valid predictive measure at all. Seeing as how that could be compromised information, perhaps length at hatching might work. It will be interesting to know one way or the other.

Thanks.

I don't think that weight at hatching is a good indicator, I have a few giants and suspected super giants that I've hatch and I'll get you the weights. Their lengths are what I think is what sets them apart.

That was what I was figuring. I appreciate you taking the time. It would be nice to establish a working range.

These weights were taken today and reflect the animals that I have hatched as well as the parents. The pairing was a Super Giant het Tremper male purchased from Ron Tremper and a Giant Tremper Albino female purchased from Steve Sykes.
Adult Male 10 5/8" 103g
Adult Female 9 1/4" 61g
Hatchling #1 6 1/4" 12g Hatched 03.01.2009
Hatchling #2 5 1/2" 11g Hatched 03.31.2009
Hatchling #3 5 1/4" 9g Hatched 03.31.2009
Hatchling #4 4 1/2" 6g Hatched 04.16.2009
Hatchling #5 4" 3g Hatched 04.15.2009
If needed I could update the info as more eggs hatch I currently have 10 more eggs in the incubator waiting to hatch. Let me know if this helps. :main_thumbsup:

Are those the current lengths and weights or are those the lengths and weights at hatching?

Thanks. Those are very helpful to me if they're the ones taken at hatching.

No those are all current. The measurements at hatching weren't taken, just know they are giants from the breeding. I've noticed that the animals are lanky at hatching and not as stout but the weights are the same. I know that the first hatchling that I had hatch hatched at 4g but is now the 6.5" animal. They do grow faster than the other animals that aren't giants in my collection. I'd really like to get some more super giant animals from Steve Sykes and compare the two as well.

Cool. Thanks for this. I haven't had much luck with the hatching weight, but I have some from Giant pairings that are 1.5 to 2x the length of other hatchlings that are from non-Giant pairings and siblings in Giant pairings. I'm pretty sure my latest RAPTOR from a GIANT RAPTOR x Enigma het RAPTOR has a strong possibility of being Giant, while a Mack Snow from a Giant Mack Snow x Super Snow pairing is definitely not. Your information is helpful. After reading about the weight claim, I was hopeful, but skeptical. Your experience is assisting in confirming my suspicions.

Then I have a hatchling from non-Giant lines that is a bit longer than normal, much thicker than normal, and has a significantly more broad head than normal. No Giant, but something to keep any eye on for other reasons.
