Poop sample Q

So, I am suspecting my Beardie might have a problem. She has only ate on and off for a little bit. Took her to the vet once already (though I didn't think he was super stellar) and he gave her some shot to up her appetite.. which didn't seem to do much and he said that he couldn't do much without a poop sample (she hadn't ate at all then for about a week) unless he took a blood sample. I decided to wait on that and she did start eating a few days later after some good ole fashion sun. Now she eats on and off. From what I understand Dragons are suppose to eat on a daily basis, even as adults.

If I get a poop sample, but on the weekend, can I bag it and put it in the fridge? How long will it hold? I had one poop sample ready but then I got distracted (I am far to busy for my own good) and forgot about it.. so I tossed it (yuck.. it was in the bottom of a fridge door). I plan on keeping her next one. I thought she was going to start eating after the previous one, but it only lasted a few days *sigh*

When you get a fresh stool sample, you can put it in a ziplock bag and store in the fridge (not freezer) for up to 48 hours. However, it is best to be tested within 24 hours.

I do not have a dragon (yet ;)), but could your girl be brumating? I read that dragons will slow down and sleep more around this time.

Maybe your UVB is old and not working if you said the sun helped. I hope you are not using the coil type.

She has a brand new UVB and it is the long light. I am back in Norther Cali so no more sun. We are in our "winter" which means lots of rain. She is doing the run about and try to get out of her cage a lot bit. So it maybe relocation stress. I am not letting her out (except for baths of course) which will hopefully help her relax sooner. She is in a 6" modified snake cage so she has plenty of space. I am going to warm it up a bit too, I had her heat light from her 40 gal so its obviously not as warm. The temps seem to be less stable for some reason. One day it will be 100 another 80. Its a steady light so I don't get it. My house runs on a thermostat too of course and I keep it warm.

Oh, yea. Change can do that. That is nice that she has a large cage:main_thumbsup:

You mentioned inconsistent temps. What substrate do you use? And is the tank below an AC vent or a fan or anything? And what do you use to measure the temps? If it's not a thermometer with a probe that actually touches the basking surface, or an infrared temp gun, then it won't be accurate enough.

Well, she just got a new bulb, a larger one. I have the probe type. The spot I have the prob will hit just at 100 but she has moved elsewhere so I will have to put a second probe in her new spot. She has been eating more but has turned vegan on me (har) and has only ate maybe 3 small sized bugs (so a bad vegan) but all of her vegies in this last week. The good part is she is pooping so I am calling the vet tomorrow to see if I can just drop by. Will probably see if they will take some gecko samples too (separately of course).
