My female has been carrying two full sized eggs for about six weeks and is acting a bit strange from her last pregnancy.

Last time, she laid them right on the carpet after about a month of gestation and this time she's carrying them a lot longer and doing some funny things. She's been digging around her laying chamber constantly up until about three days ago and throwing all the dirt out of it within an hour or so. Shes also laying on the warm side of her den with all four legs off the ground and her belly directly against the floor.. we have a mat underneath to warm that side..

Any thoughts ? Should I take her in to my Vet for a check up ?

We just lost our male to gout in early December and were wondering if she's screwed up because she was pregnant at the time.

It doesn't sound like much to be worried about. I had a female that did the same thing when she was egg-laiden. As far as her kicking the substrate out of the moist box goes, you could make the entrance hole in the top rather than the side so she can't kick it out. When it comes to her just laying around on her belly, she's probably just tired and sluggish from carrying eggs. It takes a lot of energy for a little gecko to carry such big eggs. If she doesn't lay the eggs within the next month though, you might want to have her checked to see if she's egg-bound. I hope everything goes alright. Good luck!

Sounds normal to me. It can take up to 6+ weeks from time of first breeding to laying. I'm sure all that digging is just test holes. She'll find something she likes and lay for you soon enough. Most of my gravid girls spend a lot of time laying on the warm side all spread out.

awesome! thank you for your posts.. i was beginning to get worried but from you've said I feel much better..

thats exactly what she's doing.. hanging out on the warm side most of the time and now we've changed out her humid hide substrate to coco fiber she seems much happier.. she was digging this morning and she's about to shed we shall see.. if it continues another two weeks we'll take her in for a check up..

Have you been able to actually see the eggs io her for 6 weeks nor? Or did you breed her 6 weeks ago?

I just noticed that too. Did you mean you saw the folicles about 6 weeks ago, that are now eggs, or actual eggs for 6 weeks? If eggs, you should take her to the vet just to be on the safe side. If you are unsure take a look at this picture. www.leopardgeckobreeder.com/ovulation.html The pinkish white in the middle are not eggs, they are folicles that will turn into eggs, the ones on the outer sides are eggs.

Yeah, if you have been able to see actual eggs in her for 6 weeks, you should have her checked by a vet. She could be egg bound.

it's hard to tell the actual point of conception, they were always going at it like rabbits..

She's been very fat for about a month, I looked at her two days ago and there are two pronounced large eggs in there.

If she hasn't laid them by the end of the week we'll bring her in for a check up.

Egg-bound female geckos may also exhibit the following symptoms:

Depression
Lethargy
Unresponsive
May give up nesting behaviors
Vomiting
Muscle tremors and seizures
Sunken eyes
Decreased stool output

None of these seem to be her but at the same time she’s been holding them in for a lot longer than usual and I’m getting worried. Lugar past away on the 18th of December and she was already fat and pregnant by then. So let’s say she was holding them since a week before. December 11th to January 4th – so that’s roughly 25 days. Give or take.
