I have just up a new rack for my hatchlings. As i live in scotland I use a Parasene heat cable and the thermostat i use is a habistat temperature thermostat. (Uk Brands).. I have 8 shelves in the rack and have positioned the thermostat probe in the forth shelve (in a dummy box) to try maintain an overall temp, but where do I position the probe attached to the heat cable?
Do I put this into the dummy box along side the thermostat probe? I have done this at the mo but my temps range from 82F-92F.

What am I doing wrong? Shouldnt the temps only be a few degrees out either way...

I take it no one can answer my question?

I really need to know if I have set up the probes wrong.

Any reply would be appreciated.

hmm, im not sure why you have 2 probes? im not familiar with parasene cable? Is it a realy cheap thermostat? If found that cheap thermostats vary like 4 or 5 degrees...

So your using a soil warming cable(for gardening) and this has a probe of its own , on the cable? thermostat your using looks good. The problam could be the cable your using. most heat tapes and heat cord for use with reptiles don't have there own heat probe. at least the ones I've used here in US. like flex watt heat tape or heat cords. Their job is just to produce the heat, then you plug that it to a thermostat and it regulates the heat or power to the unit. So you might wont to try a new heat cable with no other probe and set that up in a dummy box in the middle of your rack. or a little lower then the middle.
