Chris, I had a little one who's intestine came out of the umbilicle slit when the yolk sack came off. I took a Q-tip and peeled off some of the cotton, disinfected the swab and the little one's tummy with iodine, and gently poked the intestine back into the opening. I then pinched it closed and put a drop of crazy glue on the skin.

I was worried that the little one wouldn't be able to pass a stool, but it did. I was then concerned about infecction, but it never happened. sWhen I told my vet about it, he said that was exactly what he would have done!

i was unable to get it pushed back inside..one is worse than the other. I think it may have something to do with he incubation media but not certain. I was trying a tub of repashys stuff. Its hard like rocks...Im wondering if its the reason. marcia whats the chances of them pulling it in since ive gotten it cleaned really good now?

I think I understand what you are saying.... the small pebbles in the Repashy Super Hatch were stuck to the umbilicus which may have prevented it from retracting into the abdomen? If so, then it should retract if the barrier has been removed.

'IF' it is a loop of intestine protruding from the abdomninal slit, it is critical it gets put back in the abdominal cavity before the slit closes up on it. If that happens, the intestine will be pinched off and blocked... outside of the body. This would be fatal without procedural intervention.

Chris, I had a couple "leekers" this year too and as soon as they hatched I washed them off to get the Hatchrite off and placed them in their tub with moist paper towel. All 4 have survived but I believe washing them off saved them because I could see where the substrate stuck to the yolk or them would've been a problem. I wish you luck and I hope they make it bro..

i wonder if there is any pain that is involved with the gecko when this happens. logic tells me that when my guts are hanging out it hurts so for geckos i would assume the same thing

I'm glad they're doing okay now. I use superhatch, but I've never had a problem with that happening so far.

Sounds like the umbilica/ yolk sac was the issue to me. I hatched a few like that last season and all retracted within 3 days.

yeah generally If one hatched and it has yolk hangin it retracts pretty well, these where being pinched off by the skin at first and the media had me very worried..I do hope they are all better now! Here they are!
