I just bred my male. He is a first year breeder and just turned one. I was looking for advice. I have already soaked him once and put him on wet paper towel. It hasn't retracted. Going to pick up some preperation H in the morning. Anything else I can do.

When my male prolapsed I started by soaking 3 times a day in a Karo syrup solution (as per the advice of all of the wonderful people on here :D). It did not retract after a couple of days....so I took him into the vet. The vet recommended continuing what I was doing and said it looked fine. A few days after that I thought it was maybe getting necrotic as it was darkening. The dark part ended up just being some scabbing, which came off shortly after. The vet then recommended switching to soaking/rinsing in a sterile saline solution 3-4 times a day followed by a rinse in dextrose (which he gave me in a syringe). It retracted after a couple of days of this. That was my only experience with a hemipenile prolapse....hope that helps a little. Good luck!

ETA: In all, it took probably close to 2 weeks to go back in. I thought I was going to have a freakin heart attack! lol

Yikes..... Is he ok looking? Does he have bleeding in that area, is he still "hanging out"?

I honestly can't advise as to the course of action to take, but maybe a call to a vet would be in order for advice as to if he's in danger or not?

It did retract. And there was no blood at all. And he still looks and feels likes he is a male. I am going to take it to a vet tomorrow and see what they think it may be but he seems fine and even ate tonight.

Ouch! I've never heard of that before.....glad he seems to be feeling ok. Keep us updated as to what the vet has to say.

well until I take in the thing i found he wont be going in because he doesn't seem to be under any stress. JMG or jeff has instructed me to wait 12 days before putting him back it but he thinks he will be okay and fully fuctional`

Took the thing to a vet who told me it isn't everything but he doesn't know what it his. He thinks it may just be a build up of sperm or something!

omg... that's a very long time!

my male prolapsed and I gave him a 2-3 month break in which he gained 26 grams again. I gave him one female and he did great. I will not breed him again just incase until the late summer.

He is just a pet from here on out. Or he just wont breed until next year. I am not that worried about having babies. i have a male aft that will be ready in a few months and I have 3 females waiting for him. And my boyfriend has crested gecko eggs incubating and my male is the dad so I am okay with just those babies!

The thing he ripped out looks like a hemipenis to me.... He removed it I think because it wouldn't get back in by itself. Good luck on the little fellow!

No what he ripped out the first time wasn't his hemipenis because just weeks later it prolapsed again. and not its retracted again!

Yes, but he has two of them. "Hemi" means "half"....

Changes are that if the prolapsed on also falls off, the little fellow will be infertile due to lack of hemipenis. As long as he doesn't suffer of any other shortcommings, he could still make a great pet!

Stevie
