I removed the divider in my leos tank last night.
Tonight, after months of poor appetite, both leos ate well for me!
Before shutting down for the night, I took one last look at my leos. The little fellow was following his lady around, and his hemipine was out. It looked a bit reddish to me, but I wasn't sure if it was okay or not. I figured I'd better check on him again. Half an hour later, he was no longer following her around the tank, and it was still out and reddish.
I got on here to research a bit more about prolapses. I'm still not sure about how long to allow it to be out before starting treatment. However, it wasn't looking too good, and I know it shouldn't be allowed to dry out. Since he wasn't following her around anymore, I became more certain that it was a prolapse. I put a fresh paper towel into his humid hide, and put him into it. Then I read some more.
He was not staying inside his humid hide, so after reading about the sugar water baths, I made him a sugar water bath, and made him stay in it for a while. Of course, he hated it, and kept trying to get out of the container.
While he was in the bath, I made him a saline bath as well, and found some preparation H. When I was ready to take him out, I noticed first that the sugar water had a pinkish tint to it, and then that his hemipine was bleeding!
Now I am really concerned! I rinsed it in the saline solution, and then covered it with preparation H and vasaline.
Before putting him back into his tank for the night, I put the divider back, put in the easiest-to-disinfect hides, and laid a damp paper towel on the entire length of the tank.
His hemipine appears to have stopped bleeding at this time. I'm not sure why it started bleeding. I don't think it was because it dried out, because it was during his sugar water soak. I don't think he messed with it; he really seemed more intent on getting out of the bath than anything else. But between researching here and getting the saline and prep. H, I could have missed something.
Did I jump in too early to treat something that wasn't a problem, and turn it into a problem?
How often should the different treatments be given each day (every two hours? every eight hours?) and should they all be done each time, or should I be alternating them?
Should I remove his dry hides? (I have for tonight)
Is there anything else I should be doing for him at the moment?
