Prolapse

I had to deal with my first prolapse this week. :(
Last season, Hal had some bleeding issues when I first put him in with a female, but he didn't actually prolapse. He'd been with that first female since late summer with no more issues, though. When my hybino female started ovulating, I put her in with him. All seemed well for the first week or so, then I found blood on the paper towels again - just little spots this time instead of the big spots last time. I checked him and sure enough, 2 days before Christmas and I have a prolapsed male. I took him in on Saturday and the vet tried putting it back, but it was just too swollen. So, we decided to wait and see before removing his hemipenis. After a few days of Prep H, anibiotics, and a pain/inflammation reducer he looked much better. Today, the vet was able to easily replace the hemipenis and added two sutures to keep it there. He's now on a stool softener as well. He'll be having the rest of the 2007 season off. Poor guy! :worried: I'm very hopeful that he will be ok now and not have to have his hemipenis removed.

I had my first prolapsed back in the spring, had to have hemi removed, but he's breeding again now and doing great. Hope your little guy can come out of this with all intact, and breed for you next season.
