Last week we noticed a prolapse on my daughters male gecko. It had been out about a week at the time I saw it because my wife and daughter forgot to tell me about it. Looked it up online and started treatment with sugar water immediately and moved him to an individual enclosure with moist paper towels for substrate. I was able to get one side pushed back in and it stayed. He was taken to the vet the following day to get checked. They confirmed the prolapse and suggested surgery since it had been out about a week. She said it still looked healthy since it was pink and not dried out. I didn't really want to spend $300+ for surgery so she said it would be OK to take him home, play it conservatively and see what happens. She also prescribed an antibiotic to prevent any secondary infection. Well, yesterday when we went to give him the antibiotic and sugar water we saw that in had retracted and he looked fine! Tomorrow he goes back to the vet for a follow up visit and I'm sure she will be surprised that he's better.
