proper nutrition/heating question sick leo

My leo is currently sick I took him to the vet recently and was asked many questions about his housing, feeding, lighting, etc. The vet asked what I was gut loading his food with then kind of looked at me funny when I told her so I'm wondering if what I'm doing is wrong and if so what is right. I really hope my ignorance hasn't harmed my gecko. When I bought my gecko almost 7 years ago the pet store said to dust his food with Repashy Superfoods Leopard Gecko Calcium Plus twice a week and that's what I've done. Also the vet said he needed uva/uvb light which I had on his cage at one time and his temps where going way too high so I removed it and only use my uth now which keeps his warm side around 90-94 and his cool side is 78-82. Like I said my leo is sick right now and if I caused this I'm going to be extremely upset with myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

the vet is wrong about the uv light. leopard geckos are nocturnal, as can be verified by the eliptical pupils. i always recommend dusting every insect that the animal eats to avoid calcium deficiency. sounds like you're doing it right since the animal has been in your care for so long and is mostly healthy. as i mentioned in one of your other threads, there may be an accumulation of stuck sheds on the hemipenes which could be loosened by soaking in 80-90F water for long periods followed by gently rubbing around the vent area with your thumb to see if anything can be dislodged.

good luck!

I appreciate the info I tend to listen to you guys over the vets and pet store employees how do you get them to soak that long when he felt so bad he would soak forever now I'm lucky if he stays in the water 30 seconds. I just inspected him pretty closely the area between the vent and hemipenes there appears to be something white(very small) and is tucked under I'm a little afraid to mess with it he squirmed big time I don't want him to prolapse in fear he's swollen bad on one side. Gonna try to upload better photos my cameras not that good.
