Pupae.

Can you feed the mealworm pupae to a gecko? Would they eat it? A friend of mine gave me some of his mealworms to start me out when I bought my leo from him. He threw in a pupa for me too. Now I have 3 pupa (aliens) and I was just wondering what my gecko would do if I fed one to her. Has anyone done this?

My female Solis looooves the pupae almost as much as waxworms. There's no harm in feeding them! But if you want to breed mealworms then keep the pupae. Mealies are really, really easy to breed and raise. :)

Yeah I feed them to mine sometimes to cut down on the beetle numbers. Some of my geckos actually really like them. Maybe they taste different? lol

I heard the same thing but maybe if you get a mealie that had just pupated then there would be some of the gutload still in it.

Sure, they will eat them, but why, have you run out of food, or just curious?

Yeah I was just wondering. I was debating whether or not to try and breed them but I'm not sure I want weird-looking beetles in my house. Lol.

I didn't think they would have much value either. They are in bascially a "comatose" state until they mature and emerge as the adult beetle.

Just a thought I had the other day :) Thanks for all the replies everyone!

Yep, they are basicly dorment, not needing food or water, then they turn to
beetles, make more mealies, and die!! ha, what a crappy life!!!
Hey!, if you think YOU have it bad, take a look at a mealie!! :main_lipsrsealed:
