hi,
i just want to ask if i can make pure "blood" from a "blood cross hypo" by linebreeding it?

I think the most accurate answer is "eventually". :(

Like many other line-bred phenotypes (visual appearances, like carrottail, etc), it has probably taken JMG more than a few breeding seasons (years) to reach the phenotype now known as "blood".

When a "pure blood" is crossed with something else, half of it's "purity" is estimated to be lost. This is just an "estimate"...basically meaning that you will see a reduction in the visual phenotype, such has "half of the parent's carrottail".

Over the following seasons, you can linebreed the Leo's with the most phenotype visible to get the fastest results.

You can't really put math to it, but I am using percentages just to give you a relative idea of how much of that phenotype is going to be visible.

Right now I believe you are starting with a "blood cross hypo", so I assume that it has about 50% of the visual "blood" appearance as JMG's full quality "blood". Let's call your gecko "generation1."

When you breed your "gen-1" to another (non-blood) gecko, you will have a reduced phenotype appearance....about half of the appearance of its one "blood" parent. So now the "gen-2" hatchlings will actually be about 25% visual phenotype of JMG original "pure blood".

------------------

From here, you take the "gen-2" hatchlings with the most visual "blood" effect....and breed them back to the "gen-1" (50%) parent for faster results. You can also breed the most visual "gen-2" hatchlings to each other to preserve/promote the phenotype's visual appearance.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Crossing a phenotype (blood) with a non-phenotype (non-blood) will have a reduced effect more like subraction...I just used percentages to give you a general idea of the "results."

1) Crossing out takes away from the phenotype.

2) Crossing "in" with another blood will add to the effect.

I think it would take quite a few years of line breeding to get something looking like a pure blood

Thanks alot.. I'm thinking the same way too..

Regarding to this subject the gen2 (blood) if showing visual appearance of a (blood) will it still be call (blood cross) considering it's only 25% of the phenotype and one of it's parent is non-blood?

I'm a first year rookie, but it seems logical that it would still be called a "blood cross" even though it is second gen crossing. I say this based only on the phenotype "carrot tail." Even if you cross out and there is less carrottail, it's still called carrot tail. In this case, the tradename happens to be "blood cross" (and they have to call it that because of the significant difference between a "pure blood" and a "blood cross". Generally, I think "blood cross" would refer to anything that isn't "pure".

Again, this is my amateur opinion...lol For all I know, it may really have to be called "blood cross-cross"...haha

I think it would also matter how much blood influence the cross has. Is it very deep orange?
