hi im hoping a few people on here will be up and reply quite soon but ive got a problem, im from england and have a leo thats damaged its spine in some way and is paralysed part from its head.
i would normaly take it 2 the vets to be put down but i wouldnt want it to be in pain overnight and reading up on here it looks like most of you put your leos down using a freezer but i heard that is bad as they develop ice crystals in their blood stream?
so what im asking is how do i do it? does it develop ice crystals as i wouldnt want it in more pain than it is ? and how do you tell when they are in a cold coma?
thanx in advance stu

I am so very sorry to hear you will be ending your gecko's life. How did it injure itself? Other than taking it to the vet, the most humane way to euthanize your gecko would be in an air-tight CO2 chamber. If this isn't practical for you, you can put your gecko in the refrigerator for several hours until it goes in to a cold coma, and then into the freezer. My vet assured me that this way they will not feel any pain.

I'm so sorry you have to do this. I trust Marcia's opinion and her vet seems to be one of the best. At least thats what I have heard. It's a very hard decision to make but one we all have to make eventually.

unfortunatly the little gecko has died over night :( in a way im happy that it didnt suffer any longer but obviously its also quite sad. thanx for the help from the replys
the only way i can think that it may have damaged its spine was that it escaped 4 two weeks about a week ago and may have hurt itself during that time :(
thanx stu
