Putting holes in plastic tubs...

What's the best way to go about this? Do those of you that melt them use some type of soddering iron (forgive me if I spelled that wrong)?

If so, where's the best place to acquire one? A hardware store or a craft store? Which will have one that's the cheapest that will work the best?

I can drill the holes, but I figured I'd have to sand off the rough edges...

Thanks for any help.

I got mine a few years back at home depot for like $9.99. Just a cheap one but it worked great, definetly better then drilling. Just do it outside, melting plastic smells.

We got our soldering iron from Big Lots! (It was like $3.99 I think.) It's cheap, but it works great! Oh, and DEFINATELY do it outside! Phillip decided to do it inside once... UGH IT STINKS!!!

I started out by drilling mine with a 3/16 drill bit. Then I would use an exacto knife to clean up the hole. I have since switched to a soldering iron which is a big time saver. It leaves a nice clean impression with no added steps involved :)

I used a saw. o.o;;

And then melted with this edge smoothing thing.

But I get off easy- I get all the weird tools 'cause my Dad's an electrician xD

Thanks for the advise everyone! I'll check out Big Lots and Home Depot.

I really appreciate it!

Oh, and thanks for the 'outside' advise, knowing me I wouldn't have thought that far ahead LOL :p

Just wanted to give a quick update :D

I bought 20 new tubs, and found the $4 Big Lots Soddering Iron.

Wow, it worked great! Didn't take any time at all.

SO, just wanted to say a big thank you again for the help!!

I think I'm actually going to switch over to tubs entirely (except for breeders)...they're soooo much easier to clean and take up less room (while actually giving my geckos MORE room).

Thanks everyone!!
