Well I want your guys honest opinion on this. I think every reptile owner needs to stand up the pythons. I think that the goverment can say that they can banned pythons and that is their ignorance on they dont know how wonderful and how much they help make peoples lives better like breeders. Also i think they need to put a licenece for burmese sizes and up so they wont get idiots to raise them and just get rid of them like trash. Also people need to do homework before they buy reptiles cause they need their special requirements. Also the politics and these people that are causing these problems are ignorant to the fact this is a huge industry and these are important to peopls lives and lastly they dont know how big and nice they can be unless you make them mean. Those are just my thoughts and i like to hear yours on this BULL they are trying to pull.

I think that is horrible that the Government is banning pythons, they should (like you said) make people have a license for the Burmese size or bigger. its not right to just ban the python all together. they are not trash and can be loving pets. this is just wrong. how about you ban the idiots from owning reptiles if they are just dumb enough to trash their pets, they dont deserve to be reptile owners! oooo this makes me mad!
but anyways.... im gonna go cool down now :p

I think there are a lot of different ways they could have regulated this better. Remember you can still keep your snakes you just can't transport them across state lines. But a solution would be banning in the more tropical areas where the problem is at it's greatest. How many wild pythons are slithering around MN,ND,WI,NY,ME,WA,OR,MT or any of the Northern states those handlers should not be punished because of careless owners in Florida. There has not been a documented death from a python in the US most of these animals are puppy dogs in captivity and super nice! It's sad and is going to take a hit on breeders. But they are causing problems in the everglades and it isn't there natural range. But your right Permits could be issued to certain handlers!!! So there are many ways they could have resolved the issue w/out banning.

I agree with most of it execpt the part about state lines i think that is bull because a lot of guys do this as a lively hood and need to go to shows and sell them on the internet because thats what they do for a income. Also i agree they should punish the careless keepers that just let them go in the everglads.

So Tanner not to argue but there have been people killed by pythons. I know of at least two children who were suffocated by their pets. A two-year-old girl in Florida was killed by her mom's BF's albino burmese, and a 5-ish-year old boy was killed by his African Rock Python in Illinois. I also heard about a guy who was killed by his (underfed and starving) burmese when he stumbled into it's cage drunk. (I watch a lot of Animal Planet.) Not to mention the ones who get out and eat their neighbors cats and dogs, which to me would be like killing a child since I believe pets are family. I saw pictures an elderly woman took of her neighbor's python eating her little dog. It was very sad, and I would be devastated if something like that happened to me. Granted I don't think these accidents would happen to a responsible owner, but snakes are escape artists and to be honest I don't think most people are responsible. However I don't think pythons should be completely banned. I agree with Christian that owner's should have a license. In FL owners also have to get their snakes microchipped, which I think is a great idea.

Well I must have read it wrong maybe it was a ball python never killed anyone?... I don't like the Burmese pythons they freak me out. I don't think anyone should have them as a pet way to big of an animal to keep. I was also reading a artical where a famous Burmese breeder won't even handle or feed them without another adult aiding him. What's so fun about that pet? But I do feel for the people that are going to loose business that part does suck!!! But we have to stand up now before they ban other exotic reptiles!!!

Personally I would never keep any snake for the safety of my other pets. Even a corn snake could eat a gecko. I know the big ones like burmese can have great personalities like any other animal, but I'm afraid of what they're capable of. They are basically one long muscle, and a 15-20ft python could easily kill a grown man, so it actually is smart to have someone watching when you're handling them. Especially when feeding, since once a snake smells food it's in eating mode and if you get in their way it's not pretty. (Many keepers don't even feed snakes in their usual habitat, because the snakes starts to associate the door opening with food and will attack anything that comes inside.) But I still love ball pythons. They are so friendly and laid back, and they don't get much larger than 5ft.

I agree with you all - we must do what we can to stop frivolous bans like the python ban. Of all the environmental concerns out there, captive bred pets shouldn't be one worth legislating at this level...
If anything, make it a crime to release them into the wild!

I agree with everyone, that law is very stupid. They should have licences, like you said. I've already signed a couple things against banning them!
