Q's about Raptor genetics and hets

Im trying to learn all I can about genetics and what not, so I ahve some questions. Im wondering how you determine if a gecko is 100% Het Raptor? Or if it is 66% het raptor? What parents would you need to create 100% het raptors? I think I may ahve asked this before, but cant find the post, and forgot the answer... What would I get when breeding a tangerine tremper albino stripe het raptor x tremper hybino het raptor? Both are 100% het. If I dont produce a eclipse eyed gecko, what would they create? What would the hets be?

Thanks!

If you breed two 100% 'hets' together the babies will all be 66% het for that trait. So for your two het raptor geckos, their babies will be, in theory, all 66% raptor.

Raptor genetics are a bit confusing... so I don't want to get too much into it... but I hope I at least helped answer part of your question. :)

The problem with RAPTORs is that it is a combined trait genetic morph. What makes a RAPTOR a RAPTOR is it's ruby eyes, which is controlled by a separate gene than the Tremper albino patternless aspect of the morph.

If you crossed a RAPTOR with a non-RAPTOR, all the babies would be 100% het for RAPTOR (in theory). Any 100% het simply means that one of the offspring's parents were homozygous for that recessive trait.

Now, if you crossed two 100% het RAPTORs, you would get:
25% WT (without trait)
50% WT het RAPTORs
25% RAPTORs

The problem would be that 75% of the babies would be WT, and out of those, 2/3 would be het for RAPTOR... but you wouldn't be able to tell which ones. This is where we get the 66% (or 2/3) possibility that those offspring are het for RAPTOR.

Actually to clarify a little more. 100% het x 100% het = 25% what you want (raptor), 50% hets (100%) and 25% normal (or normal albino in one of your cases). Since you can't tell the difference between a normal or albino het and a plain normal or albino...2 out of those 3 or 66% are your odds of having a het in the geckos that arent raptor.

Raptors are a tricky trait since they are combo morphs. Honestly though, our "100% het raptor" we breed to a raptor last year gave us exactly 50% raptors so it worked as it should. There are some cases were they work exactly like hets (like our case) but I've heard from others that it's not always the case.

Thanks eveyone! Now I understand. Hopefully, I have enough luck to get 1 Raptor out of this project, if not, Ill still be completely satisfied! Just one more Q that wasnt answered. What would the non Raptor offspring look like(phenotype wise), would they reperesent any of the parents traits such as the tangerine influence int he tremper albinos?

Thanks once again!

It's hard to predict since there are so many 'other' genetic factors. I would make an experienced guess that the offspring would have quite a bit of reverse stripe influence (since the RAPTORs are part reverse-stripe) as well and the tangerine coloration. I would also suspect that many would 'hypo out', or become hybinos.

Without confusing you with the diverse genetics behind raptors(genetic traits in one animal with line bred traits also).

From that cross you could get animals like the following

redeyed hybino

tangerine reverse striped albino that hypo'd out

All those came from hybino het raptor x hybino het raptor or RAPTOR X hybino het raptor. They were made by Mike Pinichi and I got handfulls of them:main_yes:

You can indeed hatch some degree of everything I posted, along with "RAPTOR" .
