How many of you guys quarantine new animals? Is there any point to quarantining a new leo if you don't have any other leos (I have a bearded dragon and a cornsnake)? How long should they be in quarnteen for?

Just wondering. I'm getting my first leopard gecko tomorrow :D

I quarantine for 90 days in a seperate room. Just in case of things like an RI or mites or any other type of transmitable cootie.

Yes quarantine is a must. I haven't been to careful either so I cant say I followed the rules. I think Geckos cant get mites so you dont have to worry about that but what you do have to worry about is diseases like Crypto and skin diseases than can be passed to your beardy if the gecko is infected. Remember to wash your hands.

I always quarantine at least 30 days. Unfortunately, I don't have another room to put them in, but I keep the quarantined guys in individual 10 gallon tanks on the other side of the room in the corner and share NOTHING with my other guys. I use hand sanitizer and then wash my hands with antibacterial soap between coming in contact back in forth with my 'general population', also.

Good point Larry!! I know I have been guilty of this before. Anytime when dealing with an animal that is in quarantine be sure to wash your hands before going back to your other animals. Same for at shows also, If you are walking around and touching/handling reptiles be sure to wash your hands in between as well as wash them throughly before going home and handling your own geckos!!!!!

How far away from other geckos do they need to be? I understand hand washing, no shared items, thorough sanitizing, etc. Are there parasites that can "hop the tubs" if they are in the same rack?

I'm way too paranoid to keep new individuals in quarantine in the same rack as my 'general population'. :main_yes: Honestly, I don't like them even being in the same room, but I don't have any other choice at this point.
