Question about heat mats?

I have a glass viv and have just bought a little heat mat for one side of the tank. Its exo terra and the instructions seem to say it needs to be on the outside of the glass. Will this warm it up enough? The glass is quite thick. But would it burn from the inside? It also says something about having room fofr air circulation, what does this mean?

Yes they must go under the tank. I have an Exo-terra on my tank and it heats up perfectly. The Exo-terra mats have adhesive on one side and you peal off a backing and stick it onto the underside of the tank. They also come with little rubber feet to put on the bottom of your tank so it is raised up for air circulation. If you don't raise up the tank it will trap the heat and might get way too hot.

Ahh gotcha!! Re-reading the instruction leaflet, I understand it now you've said that. Just freaking out about getting it wrong!
