question about probe placement for proportional thermostat?

Okay, so after my incident with the flexwatt heat tape, that crap is going in the trash and the new heating cable is on order. i am also going to order the Herpstat ND thermostat, but am wondering if there is a certain place i should put the temp probe. My setup is like this:

melamine rack with sweater tubs. each tub has repticarpet along with humid hide and regular hide on the warm side. with the flexwatt, it seemed the tape was a little warmer under each humid hide for some reason, which leads me to think this is where i should place the temp probe, and just set the temp to about 92 or 93. should i place it above or under the carpet though? the carpet does offer insulation, so im not sure if placing it under the carpet and having it e a little cooler on top, or place it on top, nd have it be a little warmer underneath. thanks for all of the help i have recieved so far.

so i guess no one uses temp probes on their rack systems.

come on breeders, let me know the secret of the trade, where do you stick the probe

I'd guess that most on here use rack systems with paper towel or newspaper of no substrate. I also haven't heard of many using heat cable, I'd think if you had it under the carpet you'd loose a good bit of heat. You could always give it a try you want the source where the leos are exposed to in the low 90s is ideal. Yet if take the bottom of the cage to be much warmer it might be causing the cable it self to be too warm. I've heard that you don't have as nice warm from the cables and if its harder for them to get a nice ambient temp than adding insulation like that might not be best. Just my thoughts

so youre saying i should just put the probe directly over where the heat cable goes? since the moist hide is over the cable, should the probe be under the moist hide since it seems to be a little bit warmer there?
