I am lookin for an idea on how to make or build a big thing of racks that hold many of the geckos for when we start breeding. If anyone has heard of any ideas that would be much appreciated. Also including how to keep them heated as a whole. Thanks a bunch!:D

The easiest way I know of is getting an old or new bookcase and getting some shelving board and add extra shelves where need be, just to leave enough room to slide in your tubs, I have a small bookcase now that I have 16 tubs in (8 shelves, 2 on each shelf) and I ran heattape down the back, one strip in the middle of the tubs on the left and the same for the tubs on the right. Many people use belly heat instead, so in that case you could just put the heattape on each shelf in the back, but I use the 12qt. tubs and have had no problems with back heat, but to each his own. Good luck!!

After readin your post and doing a little research I had a question about the application of the heat tape. Did you put the heat tape directly on the bookshelf, or did you leave space between the back of the bookshelf and the heat tape?

Thanks,

Kyle

I have my heat tape directly on the back of the bookcase, I tape up the connections where the wire is attached to the tape, but the heattape is directly on the back of the bookcase. I do not have belly heat on mine so I do not have any heattape on the shelves themselves.

Much appreciated, thanks!

Sorry, we have been a little under the weather here, and haven't gotten anything done, but this next week I have alot of work to do with the gecko room and I plan on getting some pics of all the geckos and the rack up on the site in the next week. Thanks

I used an old bookshelf made out of laminated particle board. I put belly heat directly on each shelf via flexwatt. I used aluminum tape to put it down and ran all the cords to a plug block and then plugged that into a homemade dimmer switch. I put a digital themometer in one of the tubs and I use the dimmer to change the temperature. I highly reccomend it as a good started, but if you like me, you will want to buy a rack eventually.

Go to wal-mart or target buy the size sterlite tuns you want to use and use the dimesions of the tub to get the rack you want. This is what i did. Go to home depot for the supplies and they will even cut the boards to the lengths you want/need. I only use belly heat, so what i did before i put the back on my rack I cut slits in the sides so the heat tape would slide on and be resting on the shelf. Back tape is ok for your hatchling rack. hope this helps. Do your selves a favor and use a thermostat

Check mine out! About 48"T by 48"L by 17"D. holds 10-28Q sterilite containers and 4-16Q smaller Sterilite containers(not shown but will be in the top row). Belly heat is the easiest(good for digestion!!!) Any ?s just ask!
