Im going to a reptile expo/show tomorrow.. just curious.. do I need to bring cash or do most of the reptile shows accept credit card? I ask because I'm probably going to be buying a vivarium along with a new gecko/lizard.. so I want to know if I should cash out $100-200. or just bring the plastic. Thanks!

While some vendors do accept credit cards.... CASH is KING.

To make sure that you can get what you want bring the cash, then if you can use the plastic. That way your covered. :main_thumbsup:

The good thing about just having cash with NO PLASTIC than you wont blow your whole wad. Since they usually are more than one day you can always go back. I was happy enough to bring just the right amount of money and thank myself for it. ;)

I agree with the whole cash thing. I went to one show and all I took was plastic.......Lets just say I came home with more than what I planned to and got in major trouble with the wife for spending way more than I had said I was. I learned the hard way " Try your best to spend only what you tell your wife you are spending"..if you don't have a wife........... spend away!

Bring both...that way you can spend the cash and then spend the card. lol. ;)

Like everyone said, cash is best, since a lot of people don't like credit cards because the companies take money out of the sale. :(

Traffic that works if your wife/husband isn't as bad as you are about reptiles, LOL. My husband is as bad as I am. We have found that the only safe thing to do is take ONLY the amount of cash that we can spend. That way we can't do the "charge it" thing. The plastic is safe at home!!!!

Exactly.
I went to my first show to pick up two females and a couple of food dishes. Brought enough money for that and water. Man I was good that day:main_laugh: :main_laugh:

But again you can always go back the next day of the expo. (Something like sleep on it and if you still want it than get it)

Take both as mentioned. I ran into a situation where I didn't have enough cash, but I had a credit card. Well the one supply vendor allowed me to add the lizard to my purchase at his stand and he gave the cash to the guy selling me the lizard.

P.S.
You should actually already have the cage set up with the proper temps. I don't know where you are located but it seems like most of the country is pretty chilly. So will your reptile be when he gets home. It's always advised that you have the cage set up in advance. This way you KNOW everything is working and temps are good. :main_thumbsup:

thanks everyone for your replies :)

my next question is......

I have a crested gecko. I'm looking to upgrade his cage to an Exo-Terra 18x18x24 glass enclosure. Normally at the pet stores these cost about $130 or so.. do you all know if these are MUCH cheaper at the reptile shows? or only a little bit cheaper?

Sorry.. I know this forum is MOSTLY leopard gecko stuff.. but I'm sure most of you also own other geckos/lizards/reptiles..etc.

thanks again :)

i hope i can get a good deal on an exo-terra:tongue:

What reptile expo are you going to? Where are you located. And I have to agree with everyone else. Set a budget for what you want to spend or you may go over board. I even have to set a budget for myself when I go to a petshop or my geckos would have everything the pet storess make!

Some times you can find an exo terra for 70-80 percent of retail. I got mine(18x18x24) for $100? at pet smart and they are cheaper at shows..SOMETIMES.

I would window shop alot. I have seen that modle you want in August at a show here and average price was $120.00. It might go down now. I have 2 of Exo Terras terrainiams. Also check Petsmart webpage. I know for a fact the hoods for those are cheaper at the shows. I priced my hood for the 18x18x18 was $49 at Petsmart and like $29 at the show.
