My Mom's friend has a doggy daycare. People keep their dogs there when they go on vacations. She also goes to people's houses to take care of their dogs and cats. Do you think there are alot of people that would go on vacation needing someone to take care of their geckos ? If so what would you pay per day ?

I can usually con a family member into taking care of the animals when I'm away. Actually paying them would be kind of weird, so I usually just find a way to return the favor. I would, however, really like to find someone local whom I could trust to "fill in" for me when I'm away. I'd pay good money for that. Finding trustworthy, reliable help isn't easy though.

I'm not 100% awake yet...

When I was working long hours at a bank, a friend of mine and his daughter would come over once a week for a few hours to help feed snakes & wash tubs. I had loaned them some money previously, and credited them $15/hour for helping out. I always gave his daughter an extra $20 per trip though. Teenagers like a little pocket change.

EDIT: Maybe it was $20/hour, I don't remember. I'm going back to bed. lol

For an experienced person. I would spend a decent amount. My local friends and family do not really know much about reptiles. (Not to be rude towards them) But the most I would trust them with would be throwing a few crickets in and keeping water dishes full. If I knew someone that knew the ins and outs of the hobby that could clean tubs when needed, dust food, keep and eye on temps, Know what to do when they find a baby in the incubator, ect,ect It would be worth it to pay someone.

I do pay more if I go on vacation... are you looking to earn a little extra money, Jacy? Or do you need a gecko-sitter for your babies?

Well, my Mom read on the internet that reptiles are the quickest growing pet business. I help at the kennels and clean horse stalls but I would really like to start a little business of my own with my brother. My Mom said that since the area that we live in is growing so much there has to be a lot of people needing this. I have references. I am in leadership and the honor roll at school. My Mom and Dad will drive me to where ever I need to go in the area. BUT MOST OF ALL I LOVE GECKO'S, TORTOISES, AND REPTILES OF ALL KINDS. If you need help let me know. Even if you need help at the show in September.:main_thumbsup:

If you're looking for petsitting jobs, I'm sure there are lots of people who would love to find a trustworthy pet sitter! The girls that take care of my geckos went around the neighborhood distributing flyers advertising their pet-sitting services. I was so happy to find someone who really enjoys the animals! They also take care of the yard (lots of watering to do on my 1-acre no-rain-in-summer yard) as well as our other misc pets. I pay them about $100/week (during summer) now. Adds up when our vacation is 2 1/2 weeks long!

In college I had a friend who stayed at people's houses and cared for their dogs - I think she got those jobs through the vet she worked for. Maybe see if the local reptile vet would help you spread the word?

Good luck!:)

When me and Ed go out of town or are one "vacation" we usually hire one of our current employees to just clean more. It depends really on pay, I usually pay her what she normally gets paid XD rofl which isn't a whole lot (a standard 7 and hour wage) we do plan on paying her more once we bring in more from the business. She said shes willing to stick it out XD

Usually our neighbour takes care of the house and the geckos...it's almost more of a favour, but I think my mom usually gives her $50 or so for the week, or however long we're gone.

She is pretty good at following specific instructions and doesn't mind handling the different feeders if necessary, so I feel comfortable with her. I only have ten geckos so it's not as big a deal right now, it could be once they start having babies.

Hmmm...reptile-sitter? Could be something to think about for next summer!
