This is just a question, I am getting a new gecko in the near future and I wanted to do some tank cleaning before I do. I have been suggested to use a mix of ammonia and water or bleach and water mixture. I was wondering if it was safe to use Clorox wipes instead?

Ammonia is the only disinfectant that's effective in killing crypto, giardia, and coccidia oocysts. So if it's a second hand tank, or if you have a mystery death and suspect a parasite outbreak, then Ammonia is the way to go.

For general disinfecting, I recommend Chlorhexidine. It's non-toxic, and does not leave a foul odor. It's strong enough to kill many bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It does not however, kill crypto, giardia, and coccidia oocysts.

You can use bleach, you can use chlorox wipes, but whatever you do, make sure you never mix bleach with ammonia. It'll create toxic fumes that's harmful to both you and the geckos. Also make sure whatever you choose to use, you give the tank enough time to air out and dry out before placing anything in there.

I clean with chlorahexaidine once a week, and every 3 months with a 10% Amonia solution diluted in water , I let the Amonia sit in the tub all day and then rinse with warm soapy water... Rinse again and let it air dry the rest of the day.
