Questions about my tank setup

Hey everyone! So my tank is presently 24x18x18 but im going to get a 24x18x12 tank in Repticon because the height causes an issue with temp. leading me to use two bulbs. I have my UTH going from the top down under the tree to the cave on the bottom. The cave is my moist hide. I've noticed the floor of the cave is considerably colder that the floor of the tree. I'm not sure if its the thickness of the tiles or what...

Anyways, i'm considering getting a different humid hide that keeps humidity longer but need to do something about the heat. Ground temp is regualted by the surface reader you can see on the floor between the tree and the cave. That is always at 90 degrees farenheit. The tile on the left side (cold side) of the tank reads 24 degrees celsius with my infrared gun which I think is too cold, causing my gecko never go to that side and hang out usually under the tree.

now my questions:

1) I was debating actually changing the substrate to slate or somekind of thinner tile. Should i do that or keep the tile i have now? Also my friend was telling me about pilates mats?? Never seen a person use that. I'm afraid of it melting with the UTH..

2) I have a medium size UTH and noticed the hottest part is the area BETWEEN the tree and the cave (probably due to the CEM above). Should I buy a UTH that stretches all the way to the bottom cave (humid hide) to make sure the temp is warm inside also?

3) My gecko is fond of climbing (poops off the top of the tree against the glass and i've caught him all the way on top INSIDE the tree), i was debating changing the log and the cave for trees as well to give him an environment he likes. Any objections to doing that?

Your temperatures are fine actually. 84 degrees on the cold side is not bad at all, it's actually kind of warm for the cold side. A CHE is probably not needed, and may be the reason why it's so warm. 90 degrees of warm belly heat is also fine for your gecko.

As for your hide choices, that's totally up to personal preference. If you have a climber, and your gecko make good use of your tree decor, then by all means let your gecko climb. As long as they aren't too tall, like the one you have, they'll be fine.

I would definitely make sure you have a good moist hide, the cave pictured probably won't hold moisture well so you'd need to re-wet every day. If you get one that's more enclosed, with a small opening, you'll find that it'll hold moisture better.

Hope that helps :)
