My first ever clutch was no good. It was stuck with paper towel and sand like glue, one broke and the other is in the incubator, but doesn't look good.
I discovered a second clutch today! I had changed out the laying box/humid hide with vermiculite. They were laid yesterday or today. I saw the female licking her rear end yesterday but assumed they had just mated. Maybe that's when she laid them. They seem perfect. Nice white, already hardened (which really makes me think they were laid yesterday) and nothing stuck together. I marked them with a small "X" and put them in the incubator at 82-84'.
I have two questions... (I'm completely new to this!)
If I'm lucky enough to succeed, and babies hatch, dad is a hypo tangerine. Any chance babies will be?
Also, when I prepared the vermiculite for the box in the incubator, I read it should be 1:1 vermiculite to water by weight. I mixed it up well, but it just doesn't seem very damp (slightly). Is this right? I buried the eggs about 3/4 the way.
Do you need to add more water before incubation is done?
If they were laid yesterday (June 5th) and incubated avg. 83', when would they hatch?
I have them in an airtight plastic box in the incubator and read I should uncover it to get fresh air about every 4 days or so.
Any tips/suggestions from all you who have done this many times would be MUCH appreciated! :main_yes:
My 9 yr old daughter already has them named. lol
