Hi,
I have had my gecko for roughly a year now, and i have been feeding her crickets since i first got her. I was thinking of changing her diet from crickets, i was thinking of changing to meal worms and i was just wondering if you guys could help me out with a few questions i have.
1. Do i just put the meal worms in a dish and just top it up when needed?
2. Do i need to dust them in any vitamins?
3. If she doesn't eat them out of her dish should i just feed them to her directly?
4. As long as the meal worms don't escape from the dish can i change her substrate to something like calcium sand? (i currently use paper towels and i hate it).
If you would be able to answer these questions for me i would really appreciate it.
Thanks

I used to feed my geckos by giving them food every night, but now I just put them in a bowl, I noticed they eat a lot more that way (twice as much), and I just refill the bowl when it's almost empty, as for vitamins, just put calcium along with a tiny bit of repashy or whatever brand you prefer in the dish you use for the worms, that way they also get dusted with it... Hope that helps. :)

By the way, I'm no expert, so this is just how I do it... :)

1) you can put the mealworms in a dish and if it seems like she is not interested you can drop a couple in front of her and see if she will take them that way. I would change them out daily though so you can have freshly gutloaded worms.

2) Yes you need to dust them with vitamins just like you do with crickets

3) I would advise not to change to any sand substrate but especially not calci sand. Even though they are eating out of a dish they will still lick up the sane (especially calci sand) and can get inpacted. If you do not like the paper towels I suggest Tile.

Good luck! If your gecko has been on strictly crickets it might be harder to change over. She might not take to the worms too much because they arent as active as the cricket. Just keep with it and eventually she will get with the program.

She's right it might be a bit hard to make the switch... If they are hatchlings it is easier, you can put the mealworms in a bowl and don't feed it anything else, when it is hungry it will be forced to eat the worms. That's what I did with the stubborn ones that I had.

thanks for the replies guys, i think i will just try to force her onto the meal worms by leaving them in the bowl.
