I know crickets can nibble on a gecko but what about dubias? im going to be putting them in a dish but im sure they will probably get out. Any dubia feeding tips or tricks would be great. thanks,

Jake

also what size would be good for a year old female leo. she is around 40g but man these things look huge compared to mealies.

Both of my geckos could easily eat 1/2" dubia at that size. As adults, they've both taken dubias that are over an inch, but the smaller ones are bite sized (think chicken nuggets vs chicken tenders). Also dubia love to burrow under paper towels, so I usually flip them over on their backs. They kick a bunch and both of my geckos will do a little tail wag before pouncing on them, but now they don't want to eat anything else lol.

Put them in a smooth dish or mealworm escape-proof dishes, remove their 2 hind legs, and they shouldn't be able to get out at all. As for size look for medium, as adults are too large even for the largest of geckos. You know the general rule of looking at the distance between the width of the gecko's eyes, and use that to measure how big of a feeder you use.

We tong feed all our dubias by holding them upside down and grabbing the front edge of the shell or a hind leg with forceps and hand feed them to the geckos. That way they aren't getting loose and wasting your time. We've found only about 20% of leos will eat dubias, but for those that do, they are great, and extra good for laying females...high in protein and calcium. We get perfect eggs from our females that eat dubias.

It seems like people get really mixed results with feeding dubias. I only have 2 leos, but I have 15 other geckos and a frog that all LOVE dubias. On the other hand, I've heard leo owners say they don't have much luck with dubia. I wonder if this has anything to do with what people use for roach food. Either way, I hope your gecko loves them as much as mine do.
