I've seen leos eat roaches and they just swallow it right down! How do I know when the prey is too big?

I got supers and they looks so big compared to a leo!:main_laugh:

Thanks guys!:main_thumbsup:

I know my geckos wont touch it if they think its too big... I have had a couple of crickets with wings go to waste because they look so much bigger. I know my small girl Lola likes lg meal worms and my male blaze only likes the regular ones... but blaze is 2x bigger then lola... So I think its up to the gecko..

I start finding dead roaches around the tank if I go too big, they just spit them out if they are too big, and go for another one. I watched one gecko kill 6 roaches looking for the right sized one. she would grab bite down a few times and spit them out.

I was wondering the same thing, I've only ever given my full grown leo mealworms and crickets, and when I started reading the posts on this forum I couldnt believe that people were feeding them supers! (or roaches) i cant imagine that! I still havent gotten brave enough to try it yet, but if no one elses geckos are choking, I guess mine will be OK? I wouldnt want to have to do CPR on him or anything :) One day soon...I'll get brave.

I feed almost exclusively Dubia roaches and they come in every size from 1/4 inch to just about 2 inches. I will feed the largest size I know each gecko will eat so they do not need as many. I would rather see them eat 2 to 4 larger roaches then 4 to 8 half the size each feeding! I believe they get less exoskeleton that way also. I do have three decks that by 44 grams would take fresh shed adult male Dubia down with no problems, no hard exoskeleton and they only need to eat one!
