If my eggs were kept at 80-82F 24/7, but all of a sudden hit 83-84F for 2-3hrs, would that effect the gender? I had the tubs on top of the shelves in my reptile room and thanks to Florida Winters, the temps went up to 83-84F this afternoon where I had them. At the moment they are inside of my house where it is 79F and they are 81-82F once again.

gender development happens in the first 3-4 weeks and I highly doubt a spike of that nature will effect the eggs in any way.

Sorry to ask a question on your thread, but it is related. My temp for my Hova Bator, measured with a digital thermometer w/ probe inside the tupperware container, stays at a range of 85.2-85.6 Will it affect the eggs if the temps change throughout the day(they dont go lower or higher than what I wrote above)?

Thanks ;)

Thanks Paul, I just wanted to make sure as I read somewhere that to ensure females you must keep the temps below 82F for the first 2-3 weeks. I wasn't sure if that few hours at 84F would effect the sex, but glad to see it won't. I've already moved them in my house to a room where the temps are kept at 78-79F 24/7 and they are 81F at the moment.

Baker, I doubt a +/- 0.4 degree variance will effect them at all.

I have another quick question about incubating that has me stumped. I've only incubated snake eggs before. A steady 89F for 50-60 days and that's that as far as temps go.

But, I have read that it's best to keep the female Leos at 80-82F for 3 weeks and then incubate them at 89-90F for the duration. Is this going from 82F to 90F abruptly healthy?

Or is it best to do 84F for a few days, then 86F for a few days, then 88F, then 90F till they hatch? Also, is this 90F kept 24/7 or is it a daytime temp and then you lower it at night, if so to what night time temp?
