Quick question

My brand new female(bought her like 1 1/2 weeks ago) laid eggs a couple of days ago(what a surprise, haha!!). The thing is, she was too young and skinny to be bred. I want to fatten her up before she lays again.

My Questions:

#1 Will feeding her a couple wax worms(about 3) a week be ok to fatten her up? If not, How many?

#2 Are wax worms from the local bait and tackle shop ok to feed her?

Thanks a billion!!

I would probably feed her 1 a day. You do have to be careful though, so they don't get addicted to these. You might also try pinkies, as they would also help with the calcium part of laying eggs.

Yeah, they most likely get them from wherever you would order them anyway.

Pinkies are a great way to fatten them up, but you do have to be careful. Too many pinkies can cause fatty build up in the liver. Some recommend one at the beginning of the breeding season, and another at the end. I think you would be safe to give one after every 3 or 4 clutches.

But aren't pinkies supposed to be bad? I've heard a lot of mixed answers on this, I just want to fatten her up, because her tail is more thin than I'm comfortable with, especially with her being pregnant. But thanks for the suggestions, I may try a pinky.

In the wild, they find what they can, when they can. Pinkies would be among what they would eat. You do have to be careful, it can cause liver damage. You also can have some of the same issues with wax worms. Giving one pinkie can help, if they still have milk in their bellies they have a higher nutritional value than many things. I'm not sure what nutritional value wax worms have, if any. Good luck, it can be difficult when they are laying and being on the thin side.
