rack: holes in tubs?

I'm having a rack made, how many holes do you need to drill in the tubs and how big should they be?? The tubs are 12qt and 28qt and the shelf is made of melamine with closed sides.

I use a cheap soldering iron and melt holes all along the top of the tubs. It makes the holes a perfect size!

Wouldn't there be a minimum amount of holes to allow them to have enough ventilation? Should the holes go all around the top of the tubs? Does anyone have any pics of their tubs to give me a clue?
