I don't know what his problem is. I've put him with three females that are ovulating. He gets into the right position with them (after humping every other part of their bodies:main_rolleyes:) and then nothing happens.:( He's 9+ months old (about 65 grams) and rattles like crazy since he can smell the girls. He wants to do it, but nothing is working right. Is there something wrong with him? Maybe he just thinks he's ready and he's not? Any advice would be appreciated. I'm dying for some eclipse babies and I haven't gotten any of them to even breed yet.

You don't think it will be too stressful? I've left him in for 30+ minutes and he will not leave them alone at all. (each one separately)

I have a male that bred last year. This year when I introduced him to a couple of females that were ovulating he would do his tail rattle then walk up to them and if they showed any aggression at all he would walk away and leave them alone. Last year he was right to the point. So I left him in with the girl over night and no eggs yet but it appears like there should be some coming soon.

I just find it weird that the girls lay there and let him do his thing. He gets in the position, but his 'parts' aren't out. I hope that makes sense.

I had the same problem with my first official '09 pairing... Neither was offended by the others presence so I left them together through the night... Eggs developed and she laid two beauties two weeks later... It's always best to witness copulation so you know the eggs are fertilized, but sometimes leaving them together is your only choice...

Thanks! I might try a couple more times. If I don't see anything happen, then I'll leave him overnight with one and see how they are.

He finally did it!!!! I put him with a breeder from last year (aptor het raptor). It took a little bit, but I saw him actually get it right. I knew he was good when he opened his mouth with what looked like a moan.:main_laugh: I cannot wait for some eclipse babies. They're my favorite!

Same thing happened to me with my first time breeder Enigma. He went in with a proven female and she would lie there and let him go at her over and over all over her body (he seemed partial to her head!) She would get tired of him and would drag him all over the tank with him on top! Then all of a sudden he got it right, then the next time he got a female we went thru the same routine!!! Now hes a liitle better, still a clumsy breeder but hes getting the job done, lol!
