Raising food

So in the past I raised meal worms to cut the cost and pet food runs every week. I also felt like the worms were more nutritious- less chance of chemicals...and MORE for my MONEY!!!
What do you guys think about raising crickets? Have any of you raised live food on your own?

I've raised crickets, though never quite enough to keep up with my herps. I always wound up having to do the odd cricket run, but raising my own in between supplemented that and made feeding cheaper. It's crazy easy, and while most people complain about the smell, I found a lot of tricks online for keeping everything fairly clean.

Crickets are kind of a pain to raise... mealies are easier. Roaches are the easiest. I haven't bought feeders in years with a mealie and roach colony.

Does anybody have some good cricket breeding guides on here like they have for the meal worms? I'm trying to breed meal worms right now, but I'd also like to try crickets. What were the tricks for keeping them from smelling bad?
