I had 2 giant leos from a while back who were supposed to be a breeding pair but turns out they aren't even compatible because they are 2 different albinos. The girl I got them from had bred them when the female wasn't big enough so she was extremely thin and unhealthy. She laid eggs shortly after I got her which I wasn't really expecting because she should've been done laying. None of them hatched though, possibly b/c the female was so thin she couldn't produce good eggs. When I complained about it the breeder said she'd take them back and refund me (I don't have any other giants to breed them to and didn't want to buy more) so that got taken care of this week.
I cleaned out everyone's enclosures today. I have 4 enclosures- 2 females in one (Pirate and Hazel), 3 females in another(Paisley, Melody and Harmony), and 2 single males in their own separate enclosures (Lester and Jethro). I decided to give the 3 females a different humid hide than the one they had for some reason and the old one was just sitting out while I did other stuff. A few hours later I moved it and some of the coco fiber moved and I could see an egg in there. It came from an enclosure with 3 females who aren't even big enough to be bred so I was like what the heck?!?! I went and checked them all again to make sure none are males, which they aren't. I called the person I got them from and it turns out Melody had lived with a male for a short time. I'm hoping she'll be ok, because she's really small to be laying eggs. I put the eggs in my incubator so we'll see what happens.
Hazel and Pirate had barely been eating lately. The only they would is if I teased them with the mealworms but now they started eating on their own again so that's great.
I started breeding mealworms earlier in the year... It was pretty exciting when I got my first baby mealworms a few months back, but this week I had another exciting event- 10 pupas from them!
I think that's about it for what's going on with my geckos lately (and their food).
Also wanted to add- I've been trying to work on taming the ones who don't like being held much... Pirate and Hazel are the only ones who don't mind. Lester freaks just when I got near his enclosure. Melody is ok, she'll let me pick her up but doesn't like being held for long. Harmony is pretty shy but I've picked her up a few times. Paisley is a complete psycho though!!! They live in a rack system (other than Lester) and as soon as I open it she freaks out and tries to escape. She has managed to jump out quite a few times and I'm really worried she's going to drop her tail. I had to pick her up today to move her to a different enclosure while I cleaned their cage and she was wiggling so much I was scared I was going to end up with just her tail in my hand. I've tried just putting my hand in there so she can get used to it. One time she came up and stepped on it with one foot but then she freaked out and tried to jump out of the enclsoure. I don't know what to do about her.
