I was on monster fish keepers the other day and a guy asked about rather a 20L or 40 breeder would be better for a pair of leos. I advised a 20L because larger tanks can stress younger geckos. I was told that only unhealthy geckos can get stressed, and if they do not eat for a few days after moving to a new enclosure it means they are unhealthy. Is there any truth to this? I always heard that its normal. I was also told that its a geckos nature to like to explore new enclosures, one guy even told me when he kept a trio in a 40 breeder that he re-arranged or changed the decorations and hides every couple or weeks. He said this encouraged them to eat more and be more active. Have any of you experienced this? Thanks

Healthy geckos can get stressed once u change or add something to their enclosure. They can also get stressed if they are put in a new cage.Thats why we suggest to leave them be for a week to get settled.Imo if u are constantly rearranging their hides every couple of weeks i'd like to think thats a stresser.

I don't re-arrange their stuff much, they move it when they want. Plastic and small glass dishes are light and they push stuff around. As far as stress, any gecko can get stressed from a number of different things, poor health is just one. Some recover more quickly than others. Some of that has to do with temperament. Some geckos can be under some kind of treatment for an illness and not be stressed in their behavior or habits. Not only are there are a lot of variables, but each gecko has it's own personality, and may have a negative reaction to something that is all fine and good for another.
