Reabsorbing eggs and ovary infection

How do you tell if your female has developed eggs and then reabsorbed them? Will they stop eating during the process? Lose weight?

My Bambi hasn't eaten for 2 weeks; she is on the fat side and had a very round belly, but I couldn't tell if the white shades on her lower abdomen are eggs or just fat bodies (she has never been with a male). I remember last year when Nana had an ovary infection, she stopped eating in Nov/Dec for no reason and never ate again, couldn't even get her own shed down her throat; I'm really worried that my other females will follow Nana's footstep. So I get really concerned if they stop eating. The good news is Bambi shed yesterday, and ate all her shed just fine. Her belly also seemed a little smaller than before. She also pooped yesterday and it looked perfect.

Anyone know what causes ovary infection? What are the tell-tale signs? Is there anyway to prevent that from happening?

Edit: Bambi lost 1.5g in the 2 weeks. If she is reabsorbing her eggs and not eat, how long does this process take?

Bonnie I don't have the answer to your question, but I hope someone does I am curious.

I hope it's nothing serious.

I weighed her last night, her weight is exactly the same as last week's. She didn't eat last night, but that's probably because she is still full from eating the shed. I think I'll give her warm baths for a few days to see if that can get her to eat; if not, then I'll give her a bit of worm slurry so she doesn't develop fatty liver. Apparently, that's what took Nana's life last year (she is the one in my avatar).

Yes, I took her to our vet on friday, my vet thinks she might be having pre-ovulatory follicular stasis (exactly the same thing that Nana went through 2 years ago). She suggests we do nothing at this moment, and watch her for some more time before making any decision. Unfortunately, if she doesn't get any better, surgery to take out her ovaries is the only option.

Bambi is slowly losing 0.5g per week, not too bad, and her belly doesn't look as "bloated" as before.
