Is it okay to trim the edges of my heat mat? As in the surrounding plastic, and Is it a good idea to stick self-adhesive vinyl tiles to the bottom of my viv, and is it safe to stick over my heat mat.

Help much appreciated, Thanks!

So for first I would NOT trim your heat mat... Second, adding a layer to reduce the amount of heat to a healthy 90 degrees F would be better. If you're asking if its okay for your heat mat to stick out, then I don't think there will be a problem.

Im not trimming the heat mat itself, just the overhanging plastic case so it doesnt overhang as much. What do you mean by adding a second layer? I want to stick vinyl tiles as a flooring and over the heat mat, so the heat mat serves as sort of a UTH. The heat mat wont stick out, im asking if the sticky back of the tiles are safe to apply to the heat mat, like shown here;

You need to regulate the heat pad with a thermostat rather than try to stack up layers, so you're on the right track.

I personally don't like using adhesive tile due to possibility of fumes, but I also know that many keepers have done so for years. The choice is up to you. Just be sure that if you do use adhesive, you run the tank empty for a while to allow the tiles to heat up and the fumes to disperse.
