My leopard gecko is not eating, he is getting more skinny everyday, and his tail is also very skinny. Around his vent area it is bulging out and looks red and infected. What to do??!!
He is on sand and has been his whole life, and I've been feeding him freeze dried mealworms for about a month, waiting for the petstore to get in crickets. The temps are what they have always been also.
Yeah he was eating them really good, and he really likes them, and has been pooping no problem. I noticed over the past week though that he was getting kind of skinny, so I put more worms in the tank and he has barely touched them. So today when the pet store finally got crickets I went to clean up the left over worms and I noticed he was too skinny, so I picked him up and then discovered that around his vent area is bulging and looks infected.
could be an impaction if he's not defacating, especially being on sand. do a search for herp vets in your area, or even call your local vet. ask them if they have someone there that specializes in reptiles.
is it red and infected or really red and looks abit like the genitals are hanging out. because it could be a prolapse, if it looks like the genitals are hanging out then they are really red, so might be waht your seeing. if it is a prolapse, then yes vet visit is needed.
