Rebroken leg???

I posted back in the spring about one of our poor little girls getting a broken leg at a local vets office. Well her leg healed up nicely and she hasn't had any problems.....until last night. I got her out and she once again couldn't put any weight on her leg. I honestly can't figure out what could have caused a rebreak. Her cave is about 4 inches high. She always seem to get up on top of it and down without any problems. Is it easier to get injured after a little leg has been broken once? I called the vets office and was told that , like the first time, they can't really set a geckos leg. I put her back into a 5 gal tank with nothing in there but a small box hide and her food and water dishes. I started her on liquid calcium. I thought she had been getting calcium. I coat her crickets in calcium w d3 every other night and she has a dish of calcium w/out d3 that stays in her tank ( I do see her licking it at times). She also gets herpavite every sunday ( on her 2 weekly waxies). Is there something more that I should do to prevent a future injury? Should I make her cave even lower. We also had a hammock in there ( it was about 4-4 1/2 inches off the floor of the tank) but we took it out last night and I won't put it back in because I thought she may have gotten her leg caught in it or something. Should I just keep everything closer to ground level?

What substrate are you using? Is there any way that she could have caught her leg on it? (tile, reptile carpet, etc.). Is her leg crooked, or just non-weight bearing? She might have an infection in the leg or have pulled a muscle instead of breaking it.

It sounds like you have a nice set up. I can't imagine her breaking something from a fall that low. But maybe taking the height out altogether is in order. :/ She could just be predisposed to fractures; it would be tough to figure that out for sure.

I hope she feels better soon!

We use ceramic tile in the tanks. You can feel the seperation. It is only slightly crooked. The original break actually healed back very nicely. It is in the exact same spot as the last time. She is actually quite long so I didn't think that 4 inches would be a problem for her. The only thing that I could think of that she could have gotten her leg caught on was her hamick. They are handmade ones. I used microsuede material so there are no holes in them . Her cave is made of rocks but they are all very smooth.

Wow, that is really strange. I wonder if her bone might not have completely calcified for some reason while healing? It sounds like you are supplementing correctly. It's possible that she wasn't ingesting enough calcium during the healing process to meet her metabolic demands in addition to her healing needs. Poor girl! :(

It is so frustrating. The last time it took about 2 weeks for her to heal and start walking. The vet said that hopefully it may not take that long. She is eating well ( I hand feed her ) and she seems to like her liquid calcium so I am hopeful that she will again recover normally.
