Hi,

I brought my gecko into the backyard today as I do occasionally to get him out of the cage for a bit. I noticed that when I brought him back inside, the tip of his tongue was red and he seems to be licking the outside of his mouth a lot. He also has some mucous around his mouth and it looks like he's been nibbling on some of the sand in his cage. Other than that, he seems to be moving around fine. I don't know if maybe he ate something he shouldn't have that I didn't see or what. Does this sound like something serious? There's no 24 hour vet that I can bring him to around here. I'm going to bring him to a reptile store by my house tomorrow as soon as possible to see if they know what's going on. Thanks for any help you can offer in the meantime.

Use papertowles, repticarpet, tiles, or even just the glass bottom of yer cage if u have to. But never something that's ground like sand or nutshells. Extreme risk of impaction.

the tip of geckos tongues are always red. every single one of one of mine is so that sounds normal.
if it has some small graze on it nose it will like its as it will be uncomfortable. just keep an eye on it. if your really worrying clean the wound with warm water using a cotton bud.
