Removing a uth??

Alright here's the deal guys. I got a 20gal long tank lid and uth today used off craigslist for $15. The new uth doesn't get as hot as my current one.
I want to use my current uth that's on my 20tall but I'm gonna have to take it off.
The new uth only hits 95degrees directly on the pad. The uth isn't on the new tank by the way. I have someone who wants to buy my old tank lid and uth for $35 and he's gonna house a snake in it. Well the new uth would be perfect for a snake as it doesn't get as hot.

So how and the heck can I remove the uth off of my 20gal tall so I can put it in on the 20long? I just need to get it off put it on the 20long and put the other uth on the 20tall. I don't know if the tank may break or what as I've never removed a uth.

I want to get this new 20long all set up tonight for my Leo. I got two more pieces of tile today to cover the size difference of the long tank.
I'm hoping I can take my Leo out and put him in a 16qt tub then remove all his stuff and take off the uth and put it all in the 20long tank pretty quick.

It was just to good of a deal to pass up on. I paid $10 for my 20tall and uth so $15 for a 20long with uth and lid is a deal considering if I can get this uth off and on the other tank I can sell it for $35 and I will have a larger tank for basically free. I just hope this works out so if you've taken off a uth before please tell me how it went and if you did anything special to get it off and restuck on the new tank.

I figure if anything I'm gonna have to use some electrical tape to tape the uth to the tank if the glue won't hold but I think It will. The other uth has been removed and it has a decent amount of sticky left on it so If I can press it on and turn the tank upside down and lay a book on it for about a hour it should hold.

What brand UTH? I've found that Zoo Meds peel off without too much difficulty, but Exo Terras are next to impossible to remove intact.

Well I'm all done now lol. That was pretty easy actually. I just peeled it off nice and slow. It took some pressure to peel it off but it came off in one piece and it didn't bust my tank. You might get a laugh out of this one guys.

I got the tank all assembled, his tile hides bowls and everything in there. Soon as I put him in he started walking all over the place checking it out like he noticed it was bigger. So what's he do he drops a nice ole duece, he had to break the place in right I guess lol.

He's all over walking and climbing. I think he likes it, I know I sure do. It looks so much different with it being shorter but wider. I like it alot, I'm glad now he's got some room to move around. Now I'm thinking I may need to get a lamp and bulb tho. It's gonna take awhile for the tank and tile to get warm so I'll know in a few hours what's going on.

I'm debating now if I should get a larger uth or not. I mean with the money I get from selling the old tank tomorrow I can get a uth for basically free ya know. I'm gonna see how his temps do tonight and I'll go from there.
I have to go to the pet store tomorrow anyways as I need to get a new background for the tank. The old one was 6 inches short so I'm just leaving it on the old tank so the buyer will already have a background on it.

I really like this tank, it looks so much bigger then the old one. I'm thinking now tho with it being shorter it may hold the cool side temps up a little higher then it use too.
I had to grab and move his tongs also. Soon as he saw them he started wigging out. I'm gonna drop a few dusted crickets in there and see if he chases them or not.
If he doesn't I'm just gonna take em back out and he can try again on Monday.

Hopefully he likes his new home and maybe he will start hunting for me. My backs not feeling any better with taking these steroid pills so it's not looking good for me, more then likely I will get surgery so the lil guy better get some of his gecko instinct back and hunt his food.

Oh Tony c they are both exo Terra desert 8watt uth's. He's in his hot hide with his head hanging out just eyeballing his new pad. It looks so much better, I'm glad inwas on craigslist today and found it.
Now I have enough room for his two cave hides, his humid hide and his castle decoration to be kept inside all the time. That 6inches made a huge difference, plus the lid is nicer then my old one was, it's heavier and nicer looking. Gosh I can't quit babbling on about this, time for me to hit up some other threads for a minute lol..

Well after a few hours of the glass and tile warming up I am getting warmer temps then I was before. I have 2 single layers of newspaper under the tile and my temps are warm. I mean warm to my touch. I took him out immediately, he was in his humid hide. Temps were almost 97degrees. I'm gonna put in a extra 2 layers of newspaper and see if that lowers temps just a little.
I have read 97 is ok but i don't want it getting warmer then that. I try to stay at 95 max so 97 is driving me nuts. It's a all nighter tonight lol. I don't want it to be but I gotta make sure he has stable temps. Maybe it has to do with the tank being shorter and the heat is staying in better I don't know.
I don't have anything on top his tank as I don't need to keep up ambient temps as room temp is 76degrees all day every day. That's my comfy zone lol.

Search for my thread on this topic. Someone linked me to a snake site that had an awesome write up with pics on how to do it.

Basically peel off without bending. Cover the sticky side of your UTH with foil tape. Then use the foil tape to reattach the uth to the new cage.

I did it and I have a happy Leo with a repositioned UTH.

Robinsti you didn't read the thread did ya lol. I got it off and it's still working fine nice warm temps. It has a hotspot in the middle of the pad but every exoterra uth I've owned has had a hotspot somewhere on it.
