Repti-carpet question

Howdy folks.
I have a wooden vivarium, with Repti-carpet in the bottom, I've simply got my heat mat in the viv', under the repti-carpet.

I checked my Thermometre last night and noticed that the highest temperature during the day was 102 degrees, which is obviously too high (I do have a standard bulb in place too to add light, which will also give off a little heat). It got me thinking that perhaps the HM was too close to the repti-carpet, and the floor of the viv would be uncomfortably hot for the geckos.

Do you think this might be a problem?
I've never noticed it get as high as 102 degrees before, so it could just be that it was a hotter day yesterday or something

You can try a system that regulate your temperature. I use it for my snakes and it works perfect. But the temperature outside has a big influences inside so the vivarium will get wormer then normal.

Yea, 102 is too hot. Was that the floor temp or the air temp? I'd go no higher than 96 on the warm side. You can buy a rheostat or a dimmer to regulate the heat
