so I have my crested in a 5g tank and he eats crickets and he eats some eco earth every time he does and its really worrying me. I have a 10g tank with repti carpet and I was wondering if repti carpet is ok?
same with mine. Well, mine about 75. but, i would suggest buying "crested geckos" by adam black. Its all about them. but, it says the humidity should be between 70 - 80, and if its falling below that, to spray the cage walls. "crested geckos" is a book, btw. lol.
i agree, paper towel is cheap and easy. when cresties eat the substrate, just think would they do it in the wild? probably.... i'm sure every night when hunting bugs, they eat bits of tree or moss by accident. obviously if it can be avoided, thats a good thing but i think many pet owners worry a tiny bit too much.
one of my tortoises likes to eat stones... but thats another story..
it is actually ok to let the humidity get to about 50 during the day. this way the tank can air out so mold doesnt build up and so the crested geckos dont have stuck sheds. however 30% is a little low. if i am not mistaken repti-carpet is for desert animals and not designed to keep humidity up. therefore, i would suggest paper towels as well as everyone else if you feed crickets inside the enclosure. however if you feed crickets outside the enclosure in another bin or CGD then the eco earth would be fine.
