I just recently got my thermostat and had some questions.

it is wired up to 2feet of flexwatt 3"

not too sure what you mean by
what temp can I expect to get out of this?

I have used the 500R for 3 years now and I was able to nicely maintain the temperature on my exo-terra 8x8 8W mats to with in +/- 1F.

I have just changed to rancos so that I can attach more mats to my setup

Are you talking about the ZooMed 500R? If so then you have a rheostat, not a thermostat. A rheostat does not hold any particular temperature, it simply regulates the voltage delivered to your heating element. Setting it to high will run the heater at full power, no different than plugging it in directly. Temperatures will vary based on ambient temps in the room, so you will need to experiment until you find the right setting for your desired temperature. Also be aware that if your room temperature fluctuates, the temperature in the cage will also, therefore rheostats are really only suitable for rooms that maintain a steady temperature at all time.

I must correct you there Tony, the 500R is a thermostat. It does turn off/on, I know for a while it was marketed as a Thermostat/rheostat.

My bad, I had it confused. Since it doesn't have temperatures pre-set, I guess you would set it the same way as a rheostat, by adjusting the dial until you achieve the desired temperature, correct?

Yeah, you just turn the dial and hope that you get it right. But they have been a good little thermostat for me. It just got to the point that I could no longer use them, because I required more than 2 outlets and the power bar option was not an option for me.
