Repti-Temp Rheostat?

I bought a rheostat 2 days ago and plugged it into my UTH. Even with the setting on REALLY low, the UTH still keeps getting hotter and hotter. I dont know if its broken or what. If I set it to off, the UTH turnes off, but the heat settings dont work at all! Did I do something wrong? Is it broken or something wrong with it? Any information would help.

How hot is it getting?

Is the bottom of your tank sitting on the rubber pads so air can flow under it? If you don't have airflow under the tank too much heat can build up.

We always had our hatchling rack hooked up to the same product and we never once had a problem. Not sure what would be causing yours...The UTH is plugged directly into the rheostat right?

It is possible to get a bad one. I think I got a bad one last year. Also, it takes about 1/2 hour for the temperature changes to become stable. Leave it all the way down and check it in half an hour or more. If it's still not working I'd exchange it for another one.
